Buffalo Bills Likely to Lose a Home Game Overseas Next Season
The Buffalo Bills are not focused on next season just quite yet, as they will play the Miami Dolphins at Highmark Stadium this Sunday in the NFL's Super Wild Card round.
The Bills and Cincinnati Bengals played one less game than the rest of the NFL, due to the Damar Hamlin medical event on Monday Night Football and the Bills themselves played one less home game than the rest of the AFC because of November's lake effect snowstorm. That home game against the Cleveland Browns was played in Detroit.
The Bills front office are the only ones who have one eye towards what lies ahead in the off-season, but we do know the 2023 opponents the Bills will play next season. Most of those opponents were already pre-determined and the division placements cemented the 2023 opponents for all 32 NFL teams.
2023 is the AFC's turn for the nine home games but for the Bills, they will likely only get eight home games at Highmark Stadium.
That's due to the international games that the NFL holds every season. NFL rules for international games say every team must play at least one international game every eight seasons and the last time the Bills played one was back in 2015 against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London. That's the eight-year mark.
With the Bills having nine home games and eight away games, that means we will definitely see them play an international game in 2023; that is a home game on the schedule.
The NFL plays four international games every season, which means the Bills could play that game in London or maybe Germany.
The NFL won't take a divisional home game away from the Bills but home games like the Jaguars and the Las Vegas Raiders seem prime candidates for that potential international game.
The Bills also will play the Dallas Cowboys at home but I think the Bills lobby to keep that game for Orchard Park, due to the draw the Cowboys have.
We will see what happens. The 2023 NFL schedule will likely be released in May, although the international games may be announced during the 2023 NFL Draft in April.
