It hasn't been a secret that the Bills have been exploring new options for a kicker.  Today they signed one.

Tyler Bass has struggled over the last couple of games.  While many people have theories on what is creating the misses, no one really knows for sure what has led to so many of them.  It could be something as simple as a lack of confidence.  Kicking is a very mental job.  That's why you see so many coaches call timeout right before a kick.  They call it "icing the kicker" and it's just something they do with hopes that he'll overthink it.

Either way, the league is a performance-based league.  If you're performing, you'll keep your job.  If you aren't, then a team will have to find someone who will.  Today, the Bills have brought in a kicker to provide some competition for Bass.

They're hoping that Bass can still be their guy.  They would like to continue with him.  He's signed through 2027 after signing a contract extension just last year.  If the Bills cut him, they would end up paying nearly $7.4 million in dead cap, something that they desperately want to avoid after eating so much on the Stefon Diggs trade.  Even if they cut him after the season, they would end up with over $3 million in dead cap.

Havrisik will come to the Bills from the Browns after being waived this past summer.  He's also already kicked for the Colts and the Rams.  For now, he will just be on the practice squad until the Bills decide if they're going to make a change.
