Could The Bills Make Another Big Move Soon?
In case you did not hear the news, the Buffalo Bills have finally signed star wide receiver Stefon Diggs to a 4-year, $104 million contract extension that locks him into Buffalo through the 2027 season.
Everyone has been talking about the potential contract extension for weeks now, but seeing it become a reality is a relief for Bills Mafia.
The extension should give the Bills more cap room for 2022, assumIng most of Diggs’ base salary was converted to a signing bonus for 2022. The extension makes that easier to do, and the Bills needed it. They only had a few hundred thousand dollars in salary cap space going into Wednesday. Now, they have enough to sign their draft picks in May and June.
But could the Bills do more before the draft?
We don’t yet know how much cap space general manager Brandon Beane now has, but it could be at least a few million dollars. Could that money be used on, let’s say, a free agent cornerback? Perhaps.
The Bills could also trade linebacker Tremaine Edmunds. At some point, the salary cap will not allow you as a team to pay everyone. Contracts to Josh Allen, Stefon Diggs, Matt Milano, Dion Dawkins, Tre’Davious White and Von Miller. Edmunds might be the odd man out, especially since Ed Oliver will need a new deal soon.
Pairing Edmunds with the 25th overall pick to move up for a player like Sauce Gardner or Derek Stingley Jr. has been rumored this off-season. Even for draft capital next year.
Something to keep an eye on moving forward.
