Buffalo's Hofbrauhaus would be the ninth franchise of the famous German beer-hall restaurant chain. And Buffalonians have been following the progress -- slowly -- over six years, since the concept was first announced it was coming to town.

Buffalo Rising posted an update, saying that owner Kevin Townsel expects to open "in about a month."

The site at 190 Scott Street is the the former Upstate Milk Co-Operative and Bison Chip Dip plant. The new Hofbrauhaus will be across from the Lofts @ Elk Terminal and The Fairmont mixed-use complex.

Buffalo Rising noted that recently, a maypole had been erected outside of the restaurant building.

Buffalo News food writer posted a photo showing some action happening on the interior of the restaurant in January.

Food critic Andrew Galarneau wrote in the Buffalo News:

"The longest-gestating restaurant in recent Buffalo history has created a sort of Bermuda Triangle fascination in people as it inches toward the point of pouring. The theories most frequently advanced to me would do well as plots for direct-to-cable thrillers, because no one wants to talk about the usual suspects, like financing being rethought or disagreements among major partners."

The Hofbrauhaus Buffalo has not updated its website since September 2019.
