Western New York Family Lost Everything In Extreme House Fire
A family in Western New York is suffering an unimaginable loss after their house became engulfed in flames.
On Tuesday around 2 PM, Buffalo Firefighters were called to respond to smoke coming from a house located on Hammerschmidt Avenue. When crews arrived, there were evident flames from the second-story porch.
While some residents were in the house at the time of the fire, everyone was able to make it outside safely, including a dog that was rescued by firefighters.
Fortunately, everyone managed to make it out of the house, but that doesn’t mean that this isn’t a total loss.
Matt Scherrer shared his devastation on Facebook:
“My heart is absolutely crushed right now for my family…all made it out safe thanks to the mail lady who called 911 and rang the doorbell frantic to get everyone out of the house safe.”
“I told them not to worry…this city and their family and friends will make sure they're okay,” Scherrer wrote, along with a GoFundMe link.
“I'm going back to my mother's house right now with my truck. If anyone can give me a hand with some truck loads of anything salvageable please shoot me a msg, call, or head to 90 Hammerschmidt with a truck! ”
A neighbor, who witnessed the entire tragedy from her house, told us that they are “Just hurting for that family, they lost everything in a matter of hours.”
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but the damage is estimated to be around $300,000. While six residents will be offered assistance from the American Red Cross, they could still use some extra help.
If you are interested or able to help out this family as they navigate through this restoration process, you can find their GoFundMe here.
