Buffalo Leaders Ask Famous Hollywood Actor To Relocate Movie To WNY
There's one local leader who's hoping Buffalo makes the cut for a film looking for a new shooting location.
WIVB reports Senator Tim Kennedy is hoping Will Smith's new film considers the Queen City as a backdrop.
The film, "Emancipation," recently stopped shooting in Georgia, choosing to boycott doing business with the state following a the passage of a controversial voting law.
“We believe strongly that Buffalo is the right place to make an investment,” said Kennedy.
“It’s really something to see Hollywood coming together with corporate America in response to the regressive archaic and restrictive laws that the Georgia legislature has enacted,” said Kennedy.
Senator Kennedy mentioned Buffalo's rich history of civil rights support:
“We were the birthplace in many ways of the civil rights movement, the Niagara movement, which was the predecessor of the NAACP, we have a burgeoning African American heritage corridor,” said Kennedy.
Western New York has recently become a favorite location for film shoots because of incentives like a 35% tax credit on qualified expenses in Buffalo and Niagara counties.
Buffalo Niagara Film Commissioner Tim Clark told WIVB:
“It’s really an appealing thing for big companies or little companies to come shoot in WNY,” said Clark. “And of course the inventory or architectural assets and the crew base we have here are second to none.”
Senator Kennedy and Clark are waiting on a response.
