A former Williamsville resident is retiring from a legendary TV show after 20 years on the job.

For 47 seasons, Saturday Night Live has been responsible for launching the careers of some of today’s most popular actors and comedians, including Bill Murray, Adam Sandler, Tina Fey, and Pete Davidson.

However, there are many people behind the scenes at SNL that come together to make the magic happen, and one of them has finally decided to hang up her hat and leave the show.

Lindsay Shookus, who went to Williamsville South High School, announced on Instagram that she would be stepping down from her role as producer of Saturday Night Live after 20 years with the show.

“When I started in 2002, I was a baby from Buffalo, NY who didn't know anything about the business, except that I so badly wanted to be somehow part of it. I found my place at SNL and I've spent the past two decades developing the most incredible friendships and memories alongside some truly brilliant and talented people."

Shookus is a pretty big deal in the TV world. During her time at the show, she served as an assistant and associate producer before being named a producer in 2012. She has won four Emmy awards during her tenure and was also twice named one of the “50 Most Powerful Music Executives” by Billboard, due to her task of booking SNL’s musical guests.

However, Shookus could be most well-known by the public for dating A-list actor Ben Affleck after his divorce from Jennifer Garner, and before marrying his longtime love, Jennifer Lopez.

We’re sure Shookus will be sorely missed at SNL, but we’re excited that the former Western New Yorker will finally get a chance to get some sleep!
