The Buffalo Sabres have not made the playoffs since the 2010-2011 season, when they lost in seven games to the Philadelphia Flyers in the Eastern Conference quarterfinals.

Since then, it’s been mostly bad for the franchise and Buffalo fans. The team has picked near the top of the draft more times than not and we’re still in the wake of the Jack Eichel saga.

The Sabres traded Eichel and a 2023 third round pick for a 2022 first round pick, a 2023 second round pick, forward Peyton Krebs and forward Alex Tuch.

The trade has worked out well so far for the Sabres. Both Tuch and Krebs were impressive in action this season and the Sabres will keep that first round draft pick.

The Buffalo Sabres will officially pick both 9th and 16th overall in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft. They will also pick between 28-32, because of the Sam Reinhart trade. That has yet to be decided because the Florida Panthers are still in the postseason.

The NHL Draft Lottery took place on Tuesday evening, with the New Jersey Devils moving up from number 5 (in odds) to number 2 in draft order. The Montreal Canadiens will draft first overall, as they also had the best odds to win the lottery.

That pick is likely to be star forward, Shane Wright of Kingston in the OHL.

The Sabres would have not gotten the Vegas Golden Knights first round pick in 2022 if Vegas had moved up to the top 10. That pick would transfer to their 2023 first round pick.

The Sabres were most likely to stay at number 9 and that’s where their own pick will be.

The 2022 NHL Draft is a forward-rich draft, so we could see the Sabres get more help on offense.

The 2022 NHL Draft will take place on July 7th and 8th.
