Alex Tuch Is Likely Moving On From The Buffalo Sabres

Sabres General Manager Jarmo Kekäläinen held a press conference to address the recent trade of Bowen Byram and Jordan Greenway, and also mentioned that he thinks one of their biggest offseason targets might want to simply move on from Buffalo.

Kekäläinen landed a huge trade last night

Many Sabres fans woke up on Wednesday morning to find that the Sabres had traded defenseman Bowen Byram and Jordan Greenway to Chicago for the 4th overall pick and defenseman Louis Crevier. It was a big trade.

Kekäläinen did add that he had tried to get Byram to stay. He said that he had been trying to land a longer deal with him since the middle of the season, but that Byram didn't want to negotiate with him. He wanted to become a number one defenseman, and the Sabres didn't have many other options than to trade him. So they did, and they got a nice draft pick in return.

He also mentioned that Alex Tuch will likely be gone

One of the questions to Kekäläinen was about whether there was still a chance that the Sabres could find common ground with Alex Tuch, or if he had already told the Sabres he was going to go.

Kekäläinen's response was that he didn't think that, at this point, Tuch hadn't given any indication that he'd want to sign with the Sabres. He said that they made it clear that they'd like to re-sign him, but that the power was with Tuch and he is choosing to head to free agency.

Now The Sabres Have To Make Some Moves

With the trade of Byram and the possible loss of Tuch, the Sabres will need to make a few moves to replace some quality players. It will be an interesting couple of weeks before the Sabres hit the ice again in September.
