These things were a riot last season and were a big hit with the fans. So much so, that the Sabres have announced that they will have them for sale at every home game this season.

What is a beer sabre?

Last year, the Buffalo Sabres unveiled one of the best marketing ideas ever. They called them beer sabres. Essentially, they are long tubes that have a handle. They look kind of like a sword or a sabre from the side. They would sell them as a take-home souvenir and fill them with beer for people to drink out of.

Why were the beer sabres such a hit

These things were just fun. It was fun to watch people walking around with something different other than a glass to hold their beer in. They make it super easy to "cheers" with them. Plus, when they would put people on the jumbotron that were holding one, it became an unwritten rule that you had to chug the entire beer while the camera was on you. That in itself was hilarious because something about the shape of the sabre made people spill the beer all over themselves.

It was brilliant for the Sabres too because people would have to buy more beer after they chugged that one.

The Sabres will have them available at every home game this season

Last year, they only made the sabres available at select games, and once they sold out, they were gone. It made people want to grab them up. They were even reselling them on secondary sites for tons of money.

You probably won't see people doing that this year because the Sabres have announced that they'll have them available at every single home game this year while supplies last. They'll cost $29 and include your first Labatt Blue or Blue Light.

The Sabres are halfway through their preseason. They've got two more games before the regular season begins. Tonight (9/24), they've got another preseason game in Detroit against the Red Wings at 7:00 PM.
