The Canisius College Golden Griffins hockey team will call Harborcenter in downtown Buffalo their home rink through the year 2023.  The Griffs and Harborcenter announced a 5-year lease extension this week.

It's hard to believe Harborcenter has been open for nearly four years since the Griffs opened the facility with the first hockey game there on October 31st, 2014.  2,000 fans packed the arena that night as the Griffs and nationally-ranked Ohio State played to a 3-3 tie.

Harborcenter general manager Michael Gilbert said, "when we opened the facility we stated our goal is to grow the game of hockey on every level. Canisius’ top-level college hockey greatly complements the tremendous strides we’ve seen with the Harborcenter Cup series, Jr. Sabres, Beauts, and the numerous events we host each season.”

Since moving to downtown Buffalo in the 2014-15 season, the Griffs have compiled a record of 70-62-21 and won the Atlantic Hockey regular-season championship in 2017.

Canisius begins its 34-game Atlantic Hockey schedule on Friday, Oct. 12th. The home opener on Friday, Oct. 19th is against nationally-ranked Air Force. The Griffs also host nationally-ranked Clarkson and North Dakota later in the season.
