The first time I ever went to Darien Lake was 1999 or 2000, so sadly, I didn't get to experience the park back when it first became an actual theme park in 1981.

Before that, it was a camping site (still is). It was called Darien Lake Fun Country until 1999, when it became Six Flags Darien Lake. It became Six Flags again last year after a 12-year absense of Six Flags.

A fun fact is that the Viper, which was debuted in 1982, was the first steel coaster in the world to include five inversions. Yes, the WORLD.
