We are officially into the fall season, or at least as of Thursday night at 9 pm.

For once, the weather changed into the cool crisp air we associate with fall, right when summer officially ended on the calendar. Pumpkin patches, hayrides, haunted houses and other fall activities are underway in Western New York and we still have over five weeks of "spooky season"  left.

However, as we all know, retailers do not wait to start decorating for the upcoming holiday. Halloween candy started getting displayed in early August, while it seems like Easter stuff is up the week of Valentine's Day every year.

Christmas is another holiday that always seems to get a head start -- whether it be music, foods or decorations.

Believe it or not, there are already Christmas and holiday decorations up at retailers, including the Lowe's in Hamburg.

This was sent to me by my dad on Wednesday evening, who couldn't believe his eyes when he walked in.

I don't think I've ever seen a Christmas display like this up before October. I have seen these things pop up in October and certainly November, but the third week of September is as early as it's ever been.

Three years ago, I saw Christmas things at a fabric store in early October, so I'm guessing this is not the only holiday display up in Western New York.

Summer is truly over. It's all cool weather and sweaters from here on out...okay, maybe that random few day stretch of 70 degrees in October.
