5 WNY Towns That Deserve Their Own Hallmark Movie
There has been a lot of talk this year about Hallmark movies leading up to the holidays. Most of it is because of the movie that they did, which focused on the Buffalo Bills called "Holiday Touchdown: A Bills Love Story." A lot of it was filmed right here in Western New York, and it's not a stretch to believe that there are plenty of other towns that deserve the same kind of love from the network.
What makes a town perfect for a Hallmark movie?
These towns aren't just picked at random. They're scouted for months (maybe even years) before they decide to settle on an area to film, and they've got a couple of things in common. Here are some of the characteristics that you'll notice from the towns that are highlighted in the movies:
- They've got small-town charm - Normally, they're not big towns. They've got one traffic light (at most), and one general store. They're not close to the city, and the locals tend to keep to themselves. Imagine a Norman Rockwell painting that focused on everyday American life.
- Main Street is picturesque - Imagine historic buildings with window displays and some Christmas decorations. They're locally owned stores that have made it through generations. The cars aren't jammed into parking spots (because it's a small town) and people are able to walk the sidewalks easily.
- They all have a central hub that things revolve around - They've got a community center or a town hall where people gather.
- The weather is perfect, even for winter - In these movies, there's always a perfect blanket of snow. Even when it's snowing hard in them, it looks more like a snowglobe than a blizzard.
There are plenty of towns in New York that fit the bill
All across New York State, there are tons of towns that fit that description. The weather here is perfect for those movies, and there are a bunch that have that small-town charm. Here are the towns that I think fit the best in Western New York.
