I've been a runner for years, running for fun, running in 5Ks and running with local clubs. I even was coached for a while by my friend Michelle, who helped me improve my time so much I was regularly placing in the top three in my age group in local races.

Now, Michelle and her husband own Runner's Roost, which hosts a weekly running group AND a weekly walking group. No matter what level of running you are — just starting out to a marathoner — Runner's Roost staff can offer advice for improving technique, finding great recovery gear and getting the most out of your run.

The Walk 2 Fitness Group meets at 6:30 p.m. every Monday at Runner's Roost, 4190 N. Buffalo Road. The free walks are great for those who just want to get some exercise and those who want to work toward learning to run.

The atmosphere of the running group is really casual and fun, too. You can choose a 3-mile or a 5-mile route through the village of Orchard Park, starting at 6:30 p.m. every Thursday at Runner's Roost. Both jogging strollers and well-behaved dogs are welcome. Runners younger than 16 must have an adult chaperone running with them. RSVP to the Facebook event to keep the details on hand:
