On this day in country music history, Brad Paisley pulls a huge prank...on his wedding guests, Carl Smith is born, Richie McDonald leaves Lonestar, and more! 

1892 – The first escalator is patented on this day.  If you’ve ever wondered if you could make it to the top faster by going up the down escalator, the answer is in the following video:

1927 – Happy Birthday to Carl Smith!  With about 30 hits in the 50’s (including ‘Hey Joe’) he finds himself in the Country Music Hall of Fame.

1975 – Freddy Fender makes it to the top of the Billboard Charts for the first time with “Before The Last Teardrop Falls.

1996 – Bill Monroe makes his last performance at the Grand Ole Opry.

1997 – Deanna (pronounced DEENA) Carter dances her way to the top of the Billboard Country chart with “We Danced Anyway.”

2003 – Guests actually thought they were attending a wedding rehearsal for Brad Paisley and Kimberly Williams when in fact that WAS the wedding.  They tied the knot with their guests dressed in denim in Malibu on this date in 2003. (People.com)

2005 – Dierks Bentley’s self-titled debut CD becomes his first platinum CD.

2007 – Richie McDonald tells a radio station in Baton Rouge that he plans to leave Lonestar and start his own solo career.
