Cuomo Says Gyms Will Remain Closed Indefinitely
Gyms across New York State have not been able to open their doors since the pandemic began back in March, and they will have to wait much longer.
According to WIVB, Governor Andrew Cuomo says gyms in New York State, including here in Western New York, are "highly problematic" and will remain closed.
“These have been the nationally identified sources of increased infection. We have some data here. We have experience here. We know gyms are highly problematic,” Cuomo said.
Cuomo says they have seen how problematic gyms are in the pandemic, based off them reopening too soon in other states.
On Thursday, 15 gyms across Western New York held a rally to protest the decision to leave gyms closed.
"We cannot stress enough how important regular workouts are to our members," Catalyst Fitness owner Amy Bueme said. "Every day we listen to our members tell us how regularly working out has ‘saved their lives’ by alleviating a myriad of physical and emotional ailments."
Just going about my business around Western New York, I've seen first hand how frustrated people are that gyms, and movie theaters, haven't been able to reopen.
