Damar Hamlin After Tua Collision: “I Get A Little Bit Of A Flashback”
The Buffalo Bills should feel satisfied with their 31-10 win on Thursday night against the Miami Dolphins. Sadly, the dominating victory came at a price.
During a fourth down run in the third quarter, Dolphins’ quarterback Tua Tagovailoa collapsed after a head-first collision with a Buffalo Bills defender, causing him to exit the game and the team announcing he has a concussion.
This would be Tagovailoa’s third concussion of his NFL career.
One person who reached out with their empathy and sentiments is a player who understands very well the ups and downs of injuries in the NFL…
Ironically, and unfortunately, it’s the player he collided with.
Damar Hamlin Speaks Out On Tua Tagovailoa Concussion
Frankly, it’s not Damar Hamlin’s fault for his run-in with Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa, and no one at all is to blame for the incident. It’s football– and sometimes, freak incidents happen.
But when asked about it in the locker room by Amazon reporter Tracy Cook, he didn’t hold back.
“Of course anytime somebody goes down, I get a little bit of a flashback just due to what happened to me.”
Every fan knows exactly where they were when Hamlin suffered a traumatic blow to the chest during a Monday Night Football game in January of 2023; a freak accident that sent him into cardiac arrest.
He miraculously survived, and became an inspiration to millions around the globe due to his recovery and advocacy.
He then told Cook that there is ‘"some trauma there,” but he has done the work to have a "free mind " after therapy, and is hoping that that "the more you really think about what you want to do out there, the better it is for you.”
“I want to make sure Tua knows that he’s my boy; that I wish him a speedy recovery.”
Additionally, Hamlin added that even though these injuries happen, and people think about him, that’s not necessarily what he wants to be remembered for.
Thanks to Damar Hamlin’s Chasing M’s Foundation, which benefits youth recreation programs and CPR training all over the country, Hamlin is much, much more than his injury to the world.
As for Tagovailoa and his family, Buffalo is wishing you the very best recovery. Who cares if we’re rivals? We want you back to make us better–but most importantly, we want you healthy and well for your family.
