Buffalo Bills Rival Might Sign the Best Free Agent Quarterback
The NFL season may be over, but the next two and a half months is the most busy part of the off-season, and it starts this month with the NFL Scouting Combine and draft eligible prospects meeting with NFL teams.
The start of the new league year for 2023 won't be until March 15th at 4 pm EST, which will also allow pending free agents to start negotiating with other teams.
However, if a player was released before the new league year starts (not an expiring contract), that player has the freedom to get a head start and negotiate with teams before that.
That includes new free agent, quarterback Derek Carr. The veteran QB has had some good years with the Oakland and Las Vegas Raiders organization since 2014, but the team decided to go into a different direction this year and released him.
Carr could go to a Buffalo Bills division rival.
According to Mike Garafolo of The NFL Network, Carr will visit with the New York Jets this weekend. It's the second meeting with a team, as Carr visited the New Orleans Saints last week.
The Jets are very interested in bringing in a veteran QB for their ready-to-win roster, as owner Woody Johnson said recently that the team will explore bringing in a veteran quarterback.
The Jets have a great defense, with young talent throughout the roster. Their offense had the rookie of the year in Garret Wilson, with Elijah Moore and Braxton Berrios making a great trio of weapons for whoever is their quarterback in 2023.
They also have Zach Wilson, but the 2021 2nd overall pick has been a huge disappointment and likely will be beat out for the starting job by whoever the Jets bring in.
Aaron Rodgers could decide to leave the Green Bay Packers, with the Jets on the shortlist of teams who could be very interested in his services.
