Western New York is known most for snow, the Bills and certain foods.

Those certain foods include wings, beef on weck and sponge candy. Chicken wings are clearly the number one food that outsiders know Buffalo most for and while those foods are all great, there's also a great contingency of bakeries in the region.

Buffalo is a great place for cupcakes, cookies, cakes, and other pastries. One of the most popular and famous over the last 30 years has been Dessert deli on Maple Road in Amherst.

Unfortunately, Dessert deli delivered sad news this past week.

Dessert deli announced on their Facebook page that they would be closing for good on Saturday, February 11th. This after 36 years in business.

The reason is the owners want to spend more time with their family and spend time traveling.

The owners stress they will still have all the awesome desserts that customers love. Their last day will be Saturday, February 11th.

I grew up in north Amherst and Maple Road and Sweet Home Road were my stomping grounds. My dad and I have been to Dessert deli and drove by it countless other times. It's been a staple on Maple Road in that plaza for so long. It won't feel right to not see it in there, but the reason for closing is totally understandable.

Perhaps a new business that will serve up great baked goods will take its place!
