Dolly Parton has earned her sixth Golden Globe nomination. The country icon is nominated for Best Original Song—Motion Picture in the 2019 Golden Globe Awards for "Girl in the Movies," an original song she wrote for the soundtrack of a Netflix film called Dumplin'.

The nod marks her sixth overall Golden Globe nomination. Parton was previously nominated for Best Original Song for "9 to 5" in 1981, and the singer-actor also earned nominations for New Star of the Year in a Motion Picture and Best Motion Picture Actress—Musical/Comedy for her starring role in the film of the same name. Parton was nominated for Best Actress In A Motion Picture—Comedy/Musical for her role The Best Little Whorehouse In Texas in 1983, and scored her most recent prior nomination in 2006, when her song “Travelin’ Thru” from Transamerica was nominated for Best Original Song.

Dumplin' is a Netflix original film that centers around Willowdean Dickson, a plus-size teen in a small Texas town who enters a local beauty pageant as a form of protest, which inspires her friends to join in. Parton is one of the character's heroes, and the movie features Parton's music prominently and references the singer many times in the plot. Dumplin' stars Danielle Macdonald as the title character, while Jennifer Aniston portrays Willowdean's mother, a former beauty queen who gains new respect and understanding for her daughter after being hesitant to see her compete.

Parton wrote six new original songs for the Dumplin' soundtrack, which also features new collaborations on some of her biggest hits. Parton duets with pop star Sia for an inspirational song titled "Here I Am,"  and the other guest vocalists include Miranda Lambert, Mavis Staples, Elle King, Alison Krauss, Rhonda Vincent, Macdonald and Aniston.

Parton co-wrote the new songs with Grammy nominee Linda Perry, with whom she also co-produced the soundtrack. "Girl in the Movies" will face off against “All The Stars” from Black Panther, “Requiem for a Private War” from A Private War, “Revelation” from Boy Erased, and “Shallow” from A Star Is Born when the 76th annual Golden Globe Awards air live on NBC on Jan. 6.

Dumplin' was released on Dec. 7 via Netflix, as well as in select theaters.
