Emergency Backup Goalie Announced by Buffalo Sabres

A new Emergency Replacement Goaltender has been announced by the Buffalo Sabres.

The last time an Emergency Backup Goalie was used in the NHL was legendary. An accountant who was 34 years old was called to start dressing after both of the goalies for the Ducks got hurt. You just never know and now the Buffalo Sabres have signed a new backup--that makes a lot of sense.

The NHL is getting their season started very soon. Preseason begins for the Buffalo Sabres on September 21 when the travel to Pittsburgh to take on the Penguins.

The Buffalo Sabres posted that they have done a bunch of administrative and coaching hires and they hired Jack McNaughton who has been hired to be the emergency replacement goalie if needed while he does his goalie scouting duties:

Jack McNaughton has been hired as a goalie scout and emergency replacement goaltender. McNaughton has spent the last four seasons as a goaltender for the University of Western Ontario and previously played for the WHL’s Calgary Hitmen. (NHL teams are required to have a designated emergency replacement goaltender beginning this season in accordance with the new collective bargaining agreement.)

Buffalo is becoming the place to be (now that all the teams are all good at the same time) and this season is going to be historic for Western New York between two championship caliber teams.

The Buffalo Bills will be hosting Thanksgiving Day at the brand new Highmark Stadium on prime time and the Buffalo Sabres will be hosting Thanksgiving Eve and the day after.

• November 27- Sabres vs Penguins at 8:00pm
