Erie County's COVID-19 positivity rate is soaring again. Western New York currently has the highest 7-day average positivity rate and Erie County is leading the way.

According to the Erie County Department of Health, there were 716 new COVID-19 cases on April 25, and 4,121 cases over the past 7 days.

The positivity rate in Erie County jumped from 18.5 percent to 24.3 percent.

The positivity rate in the county has increased for the sixth straight week. In April, four residents of Erie County died from COVID-19. All were over the age of 80.

The Centers for Disease Control has moved Erie County’s COVID-19 community level from medium to high.

Only one of the 10 regions has a 7-day average positivity rate of under 5 percent - New York City, which is the most populated in the state.

WNY has the highest rate as of Monday, April 25, coming in at just over 15 percent:
