Did someone steal this Holiday Showcase sign in Cheektowaga?

Does anyone remember Holiday Showcase Restaurant on Union in Cheektowaga? I mean, of course, you do. It was this restaurant that just everyone in the town loved and even survived and kept thriving even after the tornado. But, it closed once the owners retired.

The restaurant, which opened in 1965, was heavily damaged and several nearby homes were destroyed by a tornado in 1987. A number of customers and employees escaped injury when they fled into the basement of the restaurant as its roof was torn off. It was more than a year before repairs could be completed.

Eventually, the owners retired and that is when the Holiday Showcase officially closed.

I was at the Forks Fire Dept on Saturday night and we saw THE Holiday Showcase sign from the actual restaurant on someone's front porch. I thought holy smokes this is sweet, how did THIS PERSON get the Holiday Showcase sign?? Come to find out that it is not even somebody's house, but it is a museum. In fact, you have probably, driven past this place tons of times. It's right on the corner of Broadway by the ramp where you have to get onto Union.

Almost every town in Western New York has a museum, and most have limited staff to work them, which is kind of scary because more people aren't stepping up to learn about their town's history. If you don't pass down the stories, history, and knowledge--who will?
