Free Fishing Events Coming to Western New York

Fishing is one of the best ways to spend quality time with your kids. Not only does it provide an opportunity to learn about conservation and enjoy the outdoors, but it also creates memories that can last a lifetime.

Whether you’re a parent, older sibling, grandparent, or family friend, teaching a child how to fish is a special experience. New York State offers a wide variety of fishing opportunities, making it easy for beginners to get started.

Two Free Learn to Fish Opportunities Near Buffalo

Here in Western New York, there will be two opportunities for families to explore fishing and learn the basics. One event will be held at a pond in Lancaster, while the second will take place at Chestnut Ridge Park.

Registration is required, but the events are completely free to attend.

"The first event is scheduled for Saturday, June 13, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Westwood Park, 175 Pavement Road, Lancaster, 14086. The second event will be held on Saturday, June 27, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Chestnut Ridge Park at the Commissioner’s Lodge, 6121 Chestnut Ridge Road, Orchard Park".

According to a press release from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, all equipment and materials needed to participate will be provided as part of your registration.

Western New York Fishing Community Buzzing Over Sturgeon Sighting

Recently, the fishing community in Western New York was buzzing over a massive sturgeon spotted along the banks of the Niagara River. These prehistoric fish are incredible to see and can live for nearly 100 years.
