Western New York's most popular Haunted House year after year is officially taking the year off.

It was typically in plazas for the Halloween season. You may remember either in the old K-Mart plaza at French and Transit Road or in the Ted's plaza on Union by Walden. This year you'll have to take the year off as they made their announcement.

Frightworld had released this statement this morning (Thursday):

With the new, New York State regulations for haunted houses, and the continuing increase of cases in Western New York, Frightworld feels it is in the best interest of our customers and employees to not open this Fall. Buffalo’s safety has always been, and will continue to be, Frightworld’s top priority", according to WKBW.

What if you want to get your Halloween fix in? They have a solution. Their facebook page also suggested another Western New York joint: "For your Halloween fix, visit Escape City Buffalo and play our horror themed game Body Collectors! Recently voted Buffalo’s #1 Escape Rooms, you can experience the same level of detail and excitement as Frightworld, in a private and safe environment."

In addition, earlier this week Governor Andrew Cuomo gave the green light for outdoor fall activities: apple-picking, corn mazes, hayrides, and haunted houses are considered low-risk outdoor arts and entertainment.
