There will be something new in a few neighborhoods in portions of New York State. There will be thousands of new trash cans given to residents in Syracuse.

The summer is coming to an end. But not before the heat and humidity give one more blast to the area. Heat advisories have been issued for much of New York State this week.

The heat makes for a smelly garbage day in the neighborhood. But there may be relief soon as larger totes will help.

All Syracuse residents should be getting their new garbage cans in the next two weeks. The city started using new 96-gallon trash carts for 20-percent of their daily trash routes in June. Starting today, the city will begin implementing that change for everyone else.

The heat and humidity will be around for at least another day for much of the Empire State.

If your kids are headed to their first day of school, hopefully they can wear shorts!
