Historic Downtown Pizzeria Getting Ready To Reopen
If there is one thing that we can be certain of, it's that people in Western New York love their food.
With so many great foods that we're famous for, from beef-on-weck to pizza and wings, and more, just about anyone you ask will agree that Buffalo is a food city with a drinking, football, lacrosse, and bad hockey problem. This, of course, is something that we love for ourselves. But, as you know, no matter how much we love food, the economic outlook for eateries has been tough for the last few years. It seems just about every time you turn around, we're hearing news about another one of our favorite restaurants closing its doors. This has been especially true in the core of downtown Buffalo.
Not only has downtown been losing restaurants, but it has also lost its only grocery store. City officials and business owners have been trying to figure out what the issue is.
Gino & Joe's Opening New Location In Downtown Buffalo
One restaurant in downtown Buffalo that shut its doors a few months ago had several people upset since it had served people for more than 40 years. But that closure was only temporary as Gino & Joe's new location in the historic Brisbane Building is under construction and will be ready soon.
Gino & Joe's Famous NY Pizza had been a downtown Buffalo staple since the early 1980s, and they served some of the best slices, calzones, and other Italian classics to thousands of Western New Yorkers as they made their way through downtown Buffalo, walking fast. However, as the last tenant, the long-neglected and nearly vacant Main Place Mall was not the ideal location for the pizzeria, which finally shut its doors in March 2025.
The last few months without Gino & Joe's have been rough, but as Buffalo Business First has noted, the new Brisbane Building restaurant will be ready real soon. This is great news for pizza lovers all over downtown.
