Goodyear Blimp to Fly Over Western New York TODAY

The Goodyear Blimp is in Western New York and if you are in the Northtowns you have a good shot at seeing it fly around at some point this morning! This blimp in the "Wingfoot Two" and is here for a very special occasion and will be leaving today.

Why is The Goodyear Blimp here in Western New York?

The airship is in town for an event for employees at the Goodyear Plant in Niagara Falls. A lot of residents got to see it do a few laps before going to the plant and it will do a few rounds around Western New York before departing today.

The Goodyear Blimp took its first voyage in 1925! Here are some other fun facts of the Goodyear Blimp:

• The Goodyear Blimp is 246 feet long and 58 feet high.
• How fast does the blimp go? About 35 mph with a top speed near 53 to 73 mph.
• The blimp does not use hydrogen, but rather uses non-flammable helium gas.

There are a lot of fun "sky" events happening in Western New York soon including the Air Show that is happening in Rochester this weekend. The thunderbird planes made it to Western New York on Tuesday afternoon and are getting ready for the show happening in Rochester, New York. The show will be coming up on Saturday the 8th and Sunday the 9th, but if you want to meet and get some autographs from the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, they are going to be doing a session on Friday before the event starting at 7 PM.
