A great tradition that was canceled in 2020 will return this summer and it's time to brush up on your spelling.

It was announced this week that the Scripps National Spelling Bee will be back for 2021 with the finals this summer.

The Scripps National Spelling Bee returns this year with top spellers from across the U.S. and the globe gathering near Orlando, Florida, on July 8 to compete in the nationally televised event.

The spelling bee was always one of my favorite events when we were in elementary school. Although we never got to the level that the talented competitors get to in the national contest, it was fun to have a portion of the week devoted to our school's competition.

I still have a hard time spelling but thanks to technology, there is a little red line that appears under the words that I botch when I write my blogs for this radio station's website. Not that I am a dad of three little ones, I am trying to get them to learn the ABC's and it is fun to have little contests and puzzles with them. We use flashcards most of the time. But our oldest seems to love some of the programs offered online.
