Half a Foot of Snow Forecasted For Parts of WNY This Week

If you've been on social media over the last 48 hours, then you've probably heard about a potential snow system moving its way into Western New York this week. While there was uncertainty before about whether or not this system would produce accumulating snow, that looks likely now, unfortunately.

Mike Cejka of WIVB 4 Warn Weather is reporting that models show a few inches of snow to fall in Western New York this week, with even 6 inches or more to fall in parts south and east of Buffalo.

This is the Euro weather model and as you can see, all of Western New York will not escape the snow late Tuesday night and through Thursday. Wednesday is looking like the snowiest day of the week with very cold temperatures this time of year.

Since this will be heavy, wet snow, we might see rapid melting so the accumulations won't stick long but with some trees budding, that leaves the opening for potential tree limbs to come down and power outages to happen. Something to keep in mind.

If you're looking for "good news," the weather for Friday looks pretty good -- up to the mid-50s and partly sunny, so this will be a short-lived weather pattern.

Still, the fact we're getting snow in late April is pretty amazing. Technically, we usually get the last snow this time of year anyway, but I can't recall this much being forecasted this late into April.
