Snow For Halloween in New York State This Year?
There appears to be some good news for families getting ready to trick-or-treat across New York State! Every year, we wonder whether snow will make an appearance when kids head door-to-door in search of mountains of Halloween candy. Now, the latest 10-day forecast is giving families an idea of what to expect as Halloween approaches.
Remember When Your Parents Made You Wear a Winter Coat Over Your Halloween Costume?
If you grew up in New York State, there’s a good chance your mom or dad made you wear a big winter coat over your Halloween costume at least once. You might have waited months for the big night, only to have your parents seemingly ruin the whole thing with a parka or ski jacket.

How scary can a costume be when the person answering the door can barely see anything besides a kid bundled up from head to toe?
But what about Halloween 2026? Will this year bring more snow than treats? Will Mother Nature pull the ultimate trick on us once again? Fingers crossed that we can leave the parkas in the closet and get outside to enjoy the festivities!
Halloween 2026 Falls on a Saturday
There’s another reason to look forward to Halloween this year: October 31 falls on a Saturday!
That means families can enjoy trick-or-treating, Halloween parties, and plenty of candy without worrying about getting up early for work or school the next morning. For anyone planning a Halloween party, a Saturday holiday is an especially welcome treat.
Of course, the weather can make or break the experience, especially here in Western New York, where late-October temperatures can be unpredictable.

Here’s What the Halloween Weather Forecast Looks Like for New York State
According to the National Weather Service forecast available at the time of writing, conditions appear promising for much of New York State, including Buffalo and Western New York.
For the Buffalo area, the forecast currently points toward a potentially snow-free Halloween. Temperatures could reach the mid-60s, with partly sunny skies expected on October 31. The forecast also indicates a relatively low chance of precipitation around Halloween, including the days immediately before and after the holiday.
If those conditions hold, it could be great news for families hoping to enjoy trick-or-treating without worrying about snow, rain, or having to cover their kids’ costumes with heavy winter jackets.
Will the Halloween Forecast Stay Snow-Free?
This is certainly encouraging news, but there’s still time for things to change before Halloween arrives.
I always like to check the forecast in the days leading up to an event, as well as the weather expected immediately before and afterward. Although today’s weather forecasting technology is impressive, no forecast is guaranteed to be 100% accurate.
Changing wind patterns, shifts in atmospheric pressure, and storms moving into the region can all affect the weather we eventually experience.
For now, the outlook appears promising for Halloween in the Buffalo area, and hopefully, we won’t have to worry about a surprise snowstorm ruining the fun.
Get those candy bags ready, start planning those costumes, and keep your fingers crossed that the parkas can stay on the hangers this year!
