The Broadway Markey could be seeing some pretty big changes in the coming years as the longstanding Buffalo market looks to create a better experience for the customer and vendor.
According to WKBW, Empire State Development has given their recommendations on future renovations and upgrades to The Broadway Market.
“There are about 7 million people a year who visit Niagara Falls I can see this being the second stop," said Aaron Zaretsky, Founding Principal, Public Market Development.
Zaretsky helped Empire State Development compile a list of suggestions for how to help The Broadway Market in its future renovations.
The common theme is reducing wasted space, such as parking. The market uses about 6 percent of its space and the goal is to increase that.
Zaretsky says they can renovate the basement and make it accessible to the market's vendors by adding walk-in coolers, storage, and building utilities.
Here's a rendering of what The Broadway Market would look like based on these suggestions and plans.
"The building itself has the appearance of a fortress, part of what we’re proposing is to break through those walls and create storefronts that spill out onto the sidewalk," said Zaretsky.
A suggestion was also made to reflect more ethnicities in the market, such as the African-American, South Asian, and Muslim communities.
The project in all will cost around $50 million and the next step is to get Erie County and the City of Buffalo involved after the state put $4 million toward the project.
