The offseason is here in the NFL and deals are about to get signed.  When looking at the Bills, can you guess who the 5 highest paid players are?

Why do football players get paid so much?

We hear people complain all the time about how much money athletes make.  It's reasonable too.  Athletes often make obscene amounts of money.  How many people make a bigger impact on our world every day in their normal jobs than athletes?  Teachers, police officers, and social workers are just a small list of people who help others and should definitely all make a ton more than they do.

However, athletes make the money they do because no one else can do what they do.  They get that money because they are given a gift of athleticism, speed and/or size and they train their entire life for a shot in the NFL.  Then when they make it, to excel against some of the best athletes in the world takes talent.

I always say, if you want that salary, go get it if you can.  If you can't, then you know why they make the big bucks.

Jim Kelly was once the highest paid player of all time in the NFL.  In 1986 he signed a five-year, $8 million contract with the Bills.  Then in 1990 he signed a six-year $18.65 million extension.  With his $26 million dollars, he's still not even close to the highest paid for the Bills as that number has gone up so much over the past couple of years.
