The Super Bowl is this weekend and all eyes will be on Arizona as the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs will kickoff this Sunday. The world will be watching and here in Buffalo we will be hoping that our chance at the title comes next season.

But while we wait for the next season here in Western New York, the Buffalo Bills, Erie County and New York State are getting ready to start the construction of the Buffalo Bills Stadium. The site across from the current home of the Bills on Abbott Road is ready to get the first shovel in the ground.

Around the corner, on McKinley Parkway is what is left of the former McKinley Park Inn. The lot size and location is ideal for a hotel to be built and would be perfect for fans who travel to the area to see the Bills play or for any other event that will take place at the new stadium.

I have lived in the Southtowns my entire life and have driven past the stadium almost every day of my adult life and wondered why there are not more places for people to stay? If the new stadium can handle more events, why not add more hotel rooms to keep the tourists, and their money, closer to Orchard Park and Hamburg?

The next thing we could use, in a perfect world, would be some sort of family event center. Perhaps an aquatic center or other facility that gives families things to do year round. The Buffalo Bills are important to the economy here in the Western New York area but that is only a handful of Sundays. More options, more revenue coming for the Southtowns.
