It’s time once again for our Hometown Hero, brought to you by Batavia Downs Gaming with help from our friends at WNY Heroes who help us with our nominations every week.  This week, our Hometown Hero is from Kenmore, NY.  It’s Boiler Tender 2nd Class Howard Bruce!

Howard served, working in the boiler room upon the USS Purdy Destroyer doing two world cruises during the Korean War Conflict. The job was a difficult one where they faced many enemy attacks from the Japanese from the air and the sea. When he got out of the Navy, he spent 33 years working at General Motors while being an active member of the American Legion Post #264 in Tonawanda. He has worked tirelessly to promote veterans causes through the American Legion, even serving as Vice Commander. He is also a member of the America Legion Riders who honor many fallen Veterans at various ceremonies. He was an honored veteran and chosen to go to Washington, D.C. as part of the Honor Flight last year which he still talks about today as one of the most meaningful events of his life.

This week, we are proud to name 87 year old Howard Bruce our Hometown Hero of the week!
