It’s Sad Day For Those Who Love Apples

But there was some sad news over the weekend about a tree that has been producing apples for nearly two hundred years!

According to the reports,it was planted in 1826 by fur traders in the Hudson's Bay Company and considered to be the matriarch of the region's apple industry. It's an old-world green apple called "English Greenings" and was bitter when raw but perfect for baking.

It is getting to be apple season here in Western New York. Picking apples is a great tradition and from what I have seen in the woods, there is a bumper crop this year. The trees on our land are absolutely loaded with apples.
