S. Martinelli & Company issued a voluntary recall for a single lot of Martinelli’s Apple Juice. The product at the center of the recall is the one-liter (33.8 fl. oz.) bottle with a “Best By” date of “09MAR2026” or “10MAR2026” on the front of the bottle above the label, according to a notice the company sent out. The products were shipped to retail locations between March 13, 2023, and September 27, 2023, with the majority of the products shipped before July 28, 2023.

The issue was discovered when the State of Maryland conducted testing. The results exposed arsenic levels "above the guidance action level for inorganic arsenic in apple juice set by the FDA in June 2023." The Food and Drug Administration says that elevated levels of inorganic arsenic can be hazardous to young children.

In June 2023, the FDA lowered the industry action level for inorganic arsenic in apple juice from 23 parts per billion to 10 ppb. The Matinelli's Apple Juice tested by Maryland showed levels of 11.6 ppb for inorganic arsenic.

Martinelli's Apple Juice is sold at Target and Whole Foods, which have many locations throughout New York. The products should not be consumed. Please discard the juice or return it to the place of purchase for a refund.
