Governor Kathy Hochul announced baby bonuses for some New Yorkers. As so many families are struggling due to federal policies coming out of Washington, DC, leadership in NY is working to provide help. While grocery prices were supposed to come down on 'day one,' they have increased since January. Major retailers have warned that prices will continue to rise due to Trump's tariffs.
Walmart announced on Thursday, May 15, 2025, that it is raising its 'everyday low prices' due to Trump's tariffs. This is terrible news for families in New York. Prices will increase this month and early this summer, according to The Hill. Walmart's CEO Doug McMillon,

"The FY 26 Budget allocates $8.5 million to support another nation-leading initiative aimed at enhancing maternal and infant health. This initiative involves providing a birth allowance — the New York State BABY (Birth Allowance for Beginning Year) Benefit — to low-income parents on public assistance."
