A Buffalo High School that has developed a reputation for violence is back in the spotlight again after a huge fight. It was described to WKBW Channel 7 as an "insurrection." Cell phone video captured the brawl, which took place inside McKinley High School in Buffalo on Thursday, January 19, 2023. The removal of the current principal, Moustafa Khalik, was approved by the Buffalo School Board at its session Wednesday evening. Andrea Augello, English teacher, and Buffalo Teachers Federation delegate told WKBW that 44 of 46 McKinley teachers want him to remain as the principal "because they believe he's making a difference."

Buffalo Public Schools issued a statement:

This district was informed of today's incident, and it was taken very seriously. The matter was responded to swiftly and appropriately. Extra support was provided and remained at dismissal to assure that the matter remained de-escalated.

McKinley High School Has Had Multiple Incidence Of Violence On Campus

Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announced that a teenage suspect has been arrested in connection to a shooting and stabbing incidents at McKinley High School in 2022. A 17-year-old male was arraigned on February 14, 2022, Youth Part Justice Kelly Brinkworth. The teen was charged with,

one count of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree (Class “B” violent felony)
one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree (Class “C” violent felony)
one count of Assault in the Second Degree (Class “D” felony).

On Wednesday, February 9, just before 4 pm, the suspect and multiple other individuals were involved in a fight at the high school. A 14-year-old male was beaten and stabbed multiple times. A security guard, who was trying to break up the altercation, was shot in the leg allegedly by the suspect. A 13-year-old was grazed by a bullet as well but didn't initially report his injuries to the police.

There have been multiple incidents of violence on campus. A female teacher was sent to the hospital after breaking up a fight between students. According to news reports, there have been multiple fights this week between students. In just two days there were four fights at McKinley High School in Buffalo. The cause, if any, of the fights has not been made public. The teacher has since been released. The students involved in the fights may be charged, although the charges they could receive are unclear.

Buffalo Public Schools released a statement regarding the incidents,

The District does not tolerate altercations or other acts of disruption among our students. Such incidents will be thoroughly investigated. The responsible parties will be subject to the consequences outlined in our District Code of Conduct.
