As Buffalo and Western New York roll through winter, not that you can tell by the amount of snow or the temperatures we've had lately, something that kids all over the region have finally arrived.

Winter Break.

Many years ago, when I was a little tike, I was excited when winter break finally came. A week or two of no school, no need to wake up early, no more homework, and the freedom to do whatever or do nothing. Ah, those were the days, at least they were when I was a kid.

Those days are just as fun today as yesterday, but we adults know that we can't just let our kids be home alone and bored all day, so what are some things we can have our kids doing to help keep them entertained and occupied for the week?

What Are Some Winter Break Activity Ideas?

With the kids home for the next few days, you're probably on the lookout for a few things for them to do. If you said yes, I have a suggestion or 5 for you.

Now, some of these will need to be adjusted depending on the age and interests of your kids, but this may be a good place for you to get started.

Now that we finally have some snow on the ground, it's the perfect time to hit the sled hill and take a ride down. Or even better, head to Chestnut Ridge Park to take a few runs down the Toboggan run.

Did you know there is a world-class science museum right in our backyard? My kids and I can spend hours inside the Buffalo Museum of Science exploring, whether checking out the Kellogg Observatory, exploring Our Marvelous Earth, learning about Buffalo's Biodiversity, or just hanging our with Seymour & Stanley, there is plenty to do.

Go Play On The Ice At Canalside

With so much to do in the 716 during this winter break, one of the best things is waiting for you downtown. Canalside is waiting for you to come Ice Skating, or you can try your hand at Curling. Maybe check out the inside of an Igloo or take a spin on an Ice Bike... and if those aren't for you, you can have a chat with Shark Girl.

Take A Jump At Urban Air Adventure Park

If outside isn't for you during winter break, then there are plenty of activities that await you indoors. One of the best in Western New York is Urban Air Adventure Park at the Walden Galleria Mall. There's something for kids of all ages with Bumper Cars, Rock Climbing, Laser Tag, and of course Trampolines.

What is by far my favorite place in Western New York, I dare you to a better winter break activity that's better than learning about Buffalo at the Buffalo History Museum. Whether seeing the Icons of Buffalo Sports, walking through the John R. Oishei Pioneer Gallery, experiencing the Native American Gallery, or basking in the significance of the Trial of Red Jacket, the BHM is at the top of my list.

What are some ideas you have for winter break?
