Here Is What’s Happening In Western New York: Thursday Edition

Here is a look at today's top trending stories.

1 – This is a shock, there are no weather warnings this morning for Western New York, but that doesn’t mean we are out of the woods when it comes to cold wintery weather. In fact, this morning could be one of the coldest of 2025, as wind chills are below 0 in some places. We will also see some scattered snow showers this morning making the commute to work or school a bit slower than normal.

2- This is great news as Israel and Hamas have come together for a cease-fire deal and hostage exchange. The two nations have been at war for several months. The first phase of the ceasefire will last 42 days and 33 hostages, including two Americans are expected to be released by the weekend. A formal declaration of the ceasefire is expected to happen today after the Israeli government votes to pass the resolution later today.

3-The Buffalo Sabres took home the win over the Carolina Hurricanes last night at KeyBank Center. Ryan McLeod scored his first career hat trick in the 4-2 win. Head Coach Lindy Ruff made some slight changes to the lineup and it paid off for the team. The Sabres are back home tomorrow night to host the Pittsburgh Penguins.

4- If you are headed out to the Bills game on Sunday, make sure to bundle up. Kickoff is set for 6:30 on Sunday and the temperatures will be in the single digits. We could also see some scattered snow for part of the game. The Good news is that both Ravens QB Lamar Jackson and running back Derrick Henry have never won a game in temperatures below 20 degrees.

5 – Some big changes are coming to your favorite foods as the FDA has banned Red Dye #3 which is a synthetic food coloring. It has been proven to cause cancer in lab rats and foods like candy, cereal, beef jerky, and certain kinds of rice will no longer be allowed to be sold if they continue to use red dye #3. The most well-known candy using Red Dye #3 is Peeps, which means Easter could look and taste different this year.
