You won't be able to tell by the weather today, but it is the first official day of Spring, and there are signs that Spring has arrived in Western New York. We asked Western New Yorkers on social media what some sure-fire signs that Spring has arrived in the 716, and here is what they said.

Signs Spring Is Here In Western New York

Potholes, Potholes, Potholes

You drive around Western New York starts to get really bumpy. All the snow is melted, and potholes that had been filled with snow and ice start to appear. It doesn't matter if you are on a main road, side streets, or a highway; you will hit a pothole in Spring in Western New York.

Ice Cream Stands Start To Open

It all starts with Dairy Queen's annual Free Cone Day and continues with ice cream shops like Kone King, Frosty's, and Two Scoop open their windows for the season.

People Wear Shorts With Their Winter Coats

It is a sight you see every early Spring. The weather warms up a little so people will start to wear shorts, but it is not warm enough to hang up the winter coat, so you see a lot of people who are bulky up top and showing skin on the bottom.

Buffalo Sabres Playing Meaningless Games

OK...so this was a sure sign for the past 14 years, but this year, we have to change it to the Buffalo Sabres playing MEANINGFUL games. The Sabres are currently in 1st place in the Atlantic division and tied for #1 in the Eastern Conference. So a sure sign Spring is here in Western New York for 2026 and beyond is that the Sabres are playing for playoff positioning.
