This weekend was a weekend full of celebration for one Western New York family as one of their own looks forward to fulling a lifetime dream.

This past week the National Hockey League held its annual drafter and one local Western New York player took one step closer to realizing a lifelong dream of playing in the National Hockey League.

Muldowney was ranked 164 among North American skaters by Central Scouting and was selected #172 overall in the draft and is expected to play in college next year before trying to make the NHL roster.

He scored 57 goals and 40 assists for 97 points in just 50 games for Nichols. He ranked third in the league in points, first in goals, and ninth in assists.

EXTRA: San Jose makes NHL history with the hiring of former Buffalo Sabre Mike Grier as their new General Manager. 

Muldowney is committed to attending and playing for the University of Connecticut Huskies neat year and is not expected to try and make the NHL roster next season.

If Muldowney does end up making the San Jose or other NHL team he will join a long list of Western New Yorkers who have played in the National Hockey League.

The most famous Western New York Native to play in the NHL is Patrick Kane. Other players in the NHL from Buffalo include Nick and Marcus Foligno, Todd Marchant, Aaron Miller, Tim Kennedy, and Patrick Kaleta.
