Two Former Buffalo Bills Take Tryouts With New England Patriots

A lot of Bills fans believe that once a Bill, always a Bill. But it's a little harder to support former Bills when they go to a division rival.

You can't blame a guy for trying to get a new job. But when it comes to former players going to other teams, there are certain teams you wish they could turn down. As a Bills fan, it stinks to see one of your favorite players move on to a team like the Chiefs. You might even hate it when they go to the Ravens. It's terrible when they go to a division rival like the Dolphins or Jets. But to see a former player that you've been cheering on for a couple of years go to the New England Patriots is such a deflating feeling.

Remember when Mack Hollins left to go there? Stefon Diggs ended up there in free agency after playing in Houston, but it still didn't look right to see him on the Patriots.

Two former Buffalo Bills had tryouts with the New England Patriots today

It's pretty clear at this point that the Buffalo Bills aren't bringing a lot of players back who were on the team last year. Many of them had their contracts expire and the Bills seem to have just moved on.

We don't know what the circumstances were. Maybe the money just wasn't there. They didn't feel like coming back for a hometown discount. Maybe they didn't like living in Buffalo. Either way, it looks like they've played their last games in a Bills uniform.

Today, the transaction wire showed that both former Bills defensive tackle Daquan Jones and former Bills linebacker Shaq Thompson had tryouts with the Patriots.

Shaq Thompson is a player I wanted them to keep. He was solid for the Bills last year, but his age is a factor. Jones seemed to want out of Buffalo anyway. He had made a comment about wanting to play for Patriots coach Mike Vrabel on social media. As of the writing of this article, they haven't signed either of them, but we will have to keep an eye on it to see if anything comes from the tryout.
