The Buffalo Bills are just five days away from their first preseason game of 2023: Saturday at 1 pm against the Indianapolis Colts.

The Bills will get their first real good look at some pf the position battles that are taking place on the roster, such as at the mike linebacker spot, which features Tyrel Dodson, A.J. Klein and Baylon Spector.

The Bills defense looks absolutely loaded on paper. Even if the team doesn’t get edge rusher Von Miller back until week 6, they added players like edge rusher Leonard Floyd, defensive tackle Poona Ford and safety Taylor Rapp to help solidify the defense. That MLB spot is the only real question mark on defense.

The Bills also got a key player back on Sunday, along the defensive line.

The Bills have activated defensive tackle Jordan Phillips off the PUP list, meaning he can get back to be a full participant in practice.

Phillips had shoulder surgery this off-season.

Phillips has been excellent while he’s been in Buffalo, but he has had a problem staying on the field. Him back healthy will feature a dangerous rotation of Phillips, Ford and Tim Settle; with DaQuan Jones and Ed Oliver being the primary starters at DT.

We still don’t know if Von Miller will be able to get back on the field by week 1, but we certainly won’t see him on the field for preseason game number one; and likely not at all in the preseason.

Don’t expect to see any of the starters or at least not for very long against the Colts.
