With a berth in the Chase for the Sprint Cup Championship on the line Kasey Kahne got past Matt Kenseth on the second green, white, checkered attempt at Atlanta Motor Speedway on Sunday night and won for the first time this season to guarantee himself a spot in the championship field of 16.  Kenseth came in second and also made the field on points and it leaves just two spots yet to be filled.  Those two final spots will be filled on Saturday night at Richmond International Raceway.

Kahne was leading with less than two laps left when Martin Truex, Jr. and Kyle Busch got into a bumping match sending both cars into the pits for repairs and bringing out a caution.  But a bad pit stop but Kahne back to fifth on the first of two green, white, checkered restarts.  A wreck involving Kevin Harvick and several other cars brought out another caution and a second restart.  This time Kahne started third, but found his way around Kenseth and won his third career race at Atlanta.

Denny Hamlin, Jimmie Johnson and Carl Edwards completed the Top 5.

Kevin Harvick had the dominant car all night. He led 195 of the 335 laps, but after his wreck late in the race he ended up 19th.

After missing the last three races following the fatal accident at Canandaigua in early August, Tony Stewart was back on the track.  He started 12th, moved up to as high as fourth, but a bump by Kyle Busch put him into the wall and after he returned to the track a blown tire ripped up his car bad enough to end his night.  He'll need to win next week at Richmond to get into the Chase this year.
