Shocking Kidnapping Caught On Video Just Outside Of Rochester, NY

On July 5th at approximately 5:45am, Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call at the Microtel on Lehigh Station Road in Henrietta, New York, just outside of Rochester.

Shortly before, a woman in the lobby of the motel was dragged out of the lobby and into a vehicle in the parking lot by another woman and man, all in front of a stunned desk clerk.

After reviewing the surveillance video, deputies managed to identify the victim, as well as her two assailants. All three are believed to have known each other.

After MCSO Major Crimes Unit investigators, Tactical Unit deputies, and members of the Rochester Police Department searched several addresses, the vehicle used in the crime was spotted near Joseph Avenue and Sullivan Street in the City of Rochester.

Thankfully, both the suspects and the victim were located inside the car, and the two suspects were promptly taken in for questioning while the victim was transported to Strong Memorial hospital for treatment.

Deputies arrested and charged both Cordell L. Brooks and Shuntiayana Sims, both 27 from Rochester, with kidnapping in the second degree and assault in the second degree. Both charges are felonies.

The suspects were then arraigned in Henrietta Town Court and remanded to the Monroe County Jail on $100,000 cash, $250,000 insured bond, and $500,000 partially secured bond.

Deputies later released the hotel surveillance footage that was used to identify the suspects and the victim, which potentially helped save her life.

After the incident, the MCSO released a statement:

“The incredible work conducted by our Major Crimes Unit, Criminal Investigation Section, Tactical Unit and B Zone deputies to track down the suspects and rescue the victim demonstrates the persistence of our deputies to never give up until those responsible for this heinous crime were in custody. Thank you to the U.S. Marshals Service Task Force and the Rochester Police Department for your collaboration.
