She was considered the first female superstar of country music.  According to Huffington Post Kitty Wells passed away today at 92 from complications of a stroke.

She was born Ellen Muriel Deason in Nahsville, TN but was better known for her stage name "Kitty Wells".  There have been a couple women who have been called "The Queen of Country Music" but Kitty Wells was the first.

She was the first woman to top the Billboard Country charts with her song, "It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels" in 1952 and the eighth woman to receive The Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.  She was inducted into the Country Music Hall Of Fame in 1976.

Kitty's husband Johnnie passed last year at the age of 97.  They celebrated their 70th anniversary in 2007 which is one of the longest celebrity marriages in history.
