Lauren Alaina Joins Kane Brown for ‘What Ifs’ During CMA Fest 2017 [WATCH]
With both Kane Brown and Lauren Alaina scheduled to perform during the 2017 CMA Music Festival, it's no surprise that the two artists teamed up during Brown's set at the event. Readers can press play above to watch Brown and Alaina sing their duet, “What Ifs.”
Brown's crowd was clearly excited to see Alaina: As she walked onstage and her powerful voice came in on the song's first chorus, fans cheered with excitement. The two childhood friends played up the song's romantic vibe and greeted each other with a big hug at the end of the song.
Brown and Alaina have known each other since middle school, and were both in the same choir class at Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe High School, in their native Georgia. As a shy student, Brown refused to sing in class until Alaina clued him in to his potential.
“I said, ‘Come on, Kane, I think you could be a good singer,’ and then he started singing, and now look at him,” Alaina recalls. “The world can thank me!”
Brown agrees with his longtime friend and collaborator saying, “It got me here, so I credit her.”
"What Ifs" is the third single from Brown’s self-titled debut album on RCA Nashville; it follows “Ain’t No Stopping Us Now,” released in June of 2016, and “Thunder in the Rain,” released in August of 2016. “What Ifs” was written by by Brown, Matthew McGinn and Jordan Schmidt.
Alaina recently earned her first No. 1 song with her single "Road Less Traveled." She's currently promoting "Doin' Fine" as her own single.
